The 2006 Tiwha was the first commercial wine under the Coal Pit label, and this release from our private family cellar is a rare window into the incredible ageing potential of our terroir. Worth sharing we believe!

This is a limited edition cellar release, specifically for our cellar club members. This wine has been reviewed by a close friend of ours Giulio Barducci, the Founder, Wine Director and Executive Chef at Toast & Oak, Queenstown's rising star. Read his review below. We hope you enjoy!

Cork in impeccable condition. Straight from pouring, the colour is very deep & bright ruby with some 'brick' coloured hue.

The nose is very intense and aromatic with big dried strawberries, cherries and redcurrant, topped with beautiful savoury and umami notes of white mushrooms and black truffles. Hints of dark chocolate and roasted coffee already give away that we are in front of a very elegant and complex PN from a cooler climate site.

On the palate you feel the bright acidity of redcurrant and strawberries, but also the fresh minerality, so important for the Coal Pit site. Earthy and umami are confirmed with very soft and integrated tannins.

Beautiful and persistent long finish, leaving your mouth watering for a next sip.

Great paired with mushroom dishes, venison, tartare, truffle, charcuterie and lightly cooked red meat dishes without too many strong spices or flavours (you don't want to overpower the elegance of this amazing PN).

Drink now or save for 2/4 more years.
