Introducing the Coal Pit Bendigo Pinot Noir, the first wine of our Artisan Series. This marks an exciting venture beyond our home sub-region of Gibbston as we expand horizons in Central Otago. Exploratory and pushing boundaries, building upon our well-known and respected Coal Pit Foundation Series.

Drawing inspiration from Anika's time at Domaine Sylvain Pataille in Marsannay-la-Côte, AOC Côte de Nuits, one of the leading figures in the innovative new wave Burgundy movement, we aimed to create a Burgundian like expression within the unique context of Central Otago. The fruit from a warmer Bendigo site allowed for a 100% whole bunch approach, following the traditional Burgundy method with its fermentation dynamics and tannin extraction. This full whole bunch approach is relatively uncommon in New Zealand, and served as our experimental space to refine techniques while embracing the distinctive terroir of the region. Our aim was to showcase the diversity within Central Otago and express the nuances specific to Bendigo's terroir.
